I think it's closer to quantum physics, where the fluidity of the knowledge is moving toward precision, as @jhull has recently discovered with holistic & with recent articles, and considering the flexibility @chuntley and Melanie have for users re-explaining and fine-tuning what Dramatica really is.
Sure, for all of us when we first came in, we're all lost in a forest of terms--too many terms. But consider how digestion starts on the tongue, works its way through the whole system, drawing out all that the food has to offer the body repeatedly in all the processes.
Dramatica is a literary science. I'm not giving that up. It's systematic. It's predictable. AND it's tied to creativity, which is fluid. What is plasma? What is light? What is quantum entanglement? Is Schroedinger's cat dead or alive? There are tangibles that are predictable and explicable on a forum, on a website, on a computer program.
But there is MUCH subjectivity. We can be mistaken in our judgments, as we saw in the rehash of Home Alone or Nacho Libre. WHY were we mistaken? Because we bring our own creativity into the story, matching ends that make sense to us.
Human beings crave patterns. We will look for and find patterns so we can feel comfortable. We like systems. (I like systems probably more than anyone in the world. Likewise, my kids hate my systems I impose on them--chores, homeschool, discipline, organizing). We like systems, but we don't always jive with other people's systematics.
In Dramatica, (this is more for the rest of us, since it's a cloud of meaninglessness for our friend @teatromensa right now), we take a pattern and we tweak it with our creativity. Turning ingredients into a story. At the same time, we've got the scholars hacking the system in their amazing ways, explaining how the bits interact, how this matches that, how this balances that. They're the researchers. They're further along in the studies.
We wouldn't have Discuss.Dramatica if there were nothing at the core of this to discuss.
Except for the edges of science. New explanations are continually being researched on the edges. New vocabulary.
Control, for example, can mean control in any sorts of ways. The WHY behind the terms for some of us is the "magic" as you say. But how the terms were determined is going further in and further in.
I understand the terms came when Melanie and Chris took knowledge, thought, ability, and desire and multiplied them by themselves three times.
- Knowledge (times knowledge, thought, ability, and desire) ,
- Thought (times knowledge, thought, ability, and desire),
- Ability (times knowledge, thought, ability, and desire), and
- Desire (times knowledge, thought, ability, and desire)
The terms were then put through that process again.
