How does the Impact Character's Issue work?

Continuing the discussion from Issues with Dramatica’s Issues:

Per the simple definition, the IC forces the main character to face their personal problem. Keep in mind that this is going to be a process throughout the entirety of the throughline (I’m assuming we’re in the RS one here). It’s hard for me to tell from what you have written because everything needs to be encoded toward your SP and as a writer, this is where you add specificity to make it your story. So I’m kind of lacking some context here to really give any advice other than I personally have found it helpful to add those causation elements (but, therefore, however) in between each which helps to make it more of a scene.

For instance: character A devises a plan (strategy) to blank, however, in order to fulfill this, they need to blank2 (prerequisites). In the middle of blank2, it becomes evident there are blank3 (preconditions), and as a result, character A is forced to step back and look at the big picture (analysis).

That’s just off the top of my head, but when I go through and do these, I act like I’m learning it all for the first time so I’ll build my sentences based on the definitions of those elements first, then I’ll go back and look and see how they pertain to the SP as I see it and then mold them to fit it, substituting those words for actual, specific events (though I choose to keep the elements in parenthesis so I can find them.)

I’m sorry to take up your time, but this is really helping.
Your paragraph;
For instance: character A devises a plan (strategy) to blank, however, in order to fulfill this, they need to blank2 (prerequisites). In the middle of blank2, it becomes evident there are blank3 (preconditions), and as a result, character A is forced to step back and look at the big picture (analysis).

clarifies hugely the process. I was seeing all these variations too separately. Can’t see the wood for trees these last days…
I understand that the SS throughline is the relationship between the MC and the IC but then, as Armando ( not in his screenwriter’s book, in an article somewhere) said, i end up encoding the same in the IC throughline. I am seriously lacking plot at the moment, but i am enjoying very much the learning process.
One day it’ll all click into place and i might be able to reciprocate somewhere! While you’ve been in the boonies, i, metaphorically speaking, have also been in the boonies! (if they are what i think they are, that is!). Glad you’re back, but i’ll leave you in peace for a while! I am following the ‘story assembly - putting it all to work’ posts from a distance.

Ha! I was in “the boonies” over a month ago for the weekend. I’ve been back in civilization for a while now, lol. Here’s a picture off the back deck while in “the boonies,” watching the sun rise with a cup of java. These boonies happen to be the Adirondacks in New York State.

(What is SP? I can’t seem to remember what that stands for, although I got all the other abbreviations) Thanks.

How did this become @JBarker’s travelogue??

I was wondering that, too, but then realized I said elsewhere something about not participating in the one thread because I was going to be in the boonies with no internet connection. The word “boonies” carried over here and there was some question as to what it meant, I guess. You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!

sorry, my fault entirely, point taken!
