Someone on the Discord asked if the version of Muse (Narrato), would be able to tell if There Will Be Blood had enough in it to qualify for a “grand-argument” story (Dramatica storyform).
So I gave it a whirl…
Not too bad. I would’ve said about the same definitely a MC showcase piece, but overall I would have agreed with the original post that suggested there wasn’t enough there to qualify.
Looking into it further, we find that the Plot Dynamics were OK…
MC Dynamics as well…
Goal was there, but not so much Consequence
This was the most telling though…
That’s when I realized I loaded up a shooting script draft, which had some “pink” revised pages thrown in there. Narrato was smart enough to pick up on this and showcase what was different with the changes and what was there prior…and why that might have been an issue.
Element-level motivations are scrambled in revisions. Earlier drafts positioned Pursuit vs. Avoid as OS Problem/Solution; the pink pages add scenes that lean toward Control vs. Uncontrolled. That wobble keeps the thematic “engine” from humming smoothly.
But it was the loss or absence of a continuous Relationship Story Throughline that was its ultimate demise…something Narrato pointed out as well.
RS Throughline goes dormant mid-film. After the baptism, Eli and Daniel separate for a long stretch. The Relationship Story disappears, making the later bowling-alley payoff feel abrupt rather than inevitable.
So yes, Narrato can read through drafts and determine the “completeness” or soundness of a story. To be honest, if you told me in 2022 when I started adding AI to Subtxt that this would even be possible in 2025 I would have said it was years off…but, well, here we go!
