My instincts tell me that it is probably a complete story, but it requires more abstract and conceptual thinking when approaching its analysis.
Anybody familiar with the movie have any ideas?

I haven’t seen it in many years, but my instinct tells me that there’s more likelihood in there being a storyform across the entire trilogy, rather than the individual stories.
I don’t think there’s enough ‘there’ in the first to make it complete. The third, maybe, but it feels like it’s reflecting the trilogy as a whole.
Throughlines for Before Sunrise, how about:
OS - Making the most of Vienna until morning
MC - Jesse, recently jaded about love
IC - Celine, will open Jesse up to love again
RS - Jesse/Celine romance
