Character traits

What is a good example of a character with kindness and common sense?" Where would it show up in analysis?

On a character level, kindness is probably Acceptance/Evaluation or Help/Support, depending on the quadrant and the level of story participation. Common sense is a little bit tougher… I’m drawn to Logic, Conscience, Evaluation, and… Probability, maybe? Having written this, it’s interesting that Evaluation ended up on both of those—perhaps that suggests the specific flavor of kindness and common sense you have in mind?

That being said, I also wanted to think about kindness and common sense on the thematic level, too. The obvious one for Kindness is Morality vs. Self-Interest, over in the Doing quadrant, and Common Sense could either be Approach vs. Attitude or Strategy vs. Analysis next door. Beyond that, we start to get into the circumstances around what leads people to be kind—Do you see it as an Obligation, or as your Responsibility? As something you Need to do, or as an Expediency?—or to develop common sense—Is it an Instinct, or something you’ve Conditioned yourself into? Does it derive from deep Wisdom, or from bursts of Enlightenment?

I have been reading and thinking this over and over. This common sense would have connection to intelligence. Evaluation for sure took part. Thank you so much for your input. I will write more after more thought … haha.

I wonder why kindness would be Morality vs Self-interest. Both do not have some warmth. Of course, Self-interest can rev up a character … haha. Just thoughts

Ah, I’m sorry. It seems to me that Kindness is all about treating others with compassion and giving up a part of yourself to them–textbook example of what Dramatica refers to as “Morality.” Whereas cruel, unkind people care only about hurting others to soothe their own ego and go on a power trip–Self-Interest.

This really depends on the part they play in the story, doesn’t it? Depending on what the story intends to do with kindness and compassion, they could show up anywhere in analysis.

I saw it once when a decision had to be made whether or not, responsibility with (what I took as) common sense practicality. Then other times a complete lack of judgment, just spontaneously nice and kind low key but thoughtful and intelligent. It would be interesting to see if that is in any story/movie that I would recognize. Thanks a lot!
