Am very new to dramatica and by that i mean i have been trying to understand the concepts for the past 3 years. I have finally decided to write a story with a goal that falls in the type of subconscious. the question is how do i use subconscious as a story goal?..totally lost here
Why do you want to write a story with the Goal of the Subconscious? What is the problem or inequity in your story? What is the conflict? How will embracing Innermost Desires or resisting Innermost Desires solve this conflict?
What are the stakes? What will happen in the Future if this state of affairs with Innermost Desires are not met?
It’s interesting that you would pick a Story Goal of the Subconscious. Not many stories, film or otherwise, have the same kind of Story Goal. So it’s a very compelling choice. Just need to know why.
Jhull thanks for your reply, i intend to explore the reasons why people succumb to temptation despite knowing the potential consequences. And i know temptation has to do with inner most desires.the problem or inequity is I have in mind a story of woman who chooses to stay in a marriage in which the husband is unfaithful. The husband is trying his best to remain faithful but he is forever overcome by his inner most desires. I would also like to explore why a spouse would stay in a marriage despite knowing their partner is unfaithful. hope this is not too much for a single story.the trouble i have is crafting a story goal that explores people’s struggles with their inner most desires in the context above. i foresee a story with characters struggling with with their innermost desires as a result of either too much of it(desire) or a lack there of.
and having thought through some issues and this is where i am. so i have a main character who wants to save her marriage in which the husband is unfaithful. So who should be the OC? husband or the other woman? And if the MC is the wife that would make the MC throughline to fall in the type “obtaining”. which would automatically be paired with the obstacle character throughline of psychology. So i could still place the objective story throughline in the class of Mind where subconscious type becomes the story goal. and the subjective story throughline would be in the class of universe…
Going through the 12 Essential Questions can help you with this. Like:
What is the wife’s resolve? Does she change her perspective or hold firm?
What is her approach? Does she try to change her surroundings, or adjust herself to them? This one determines Situation/Activity vs Psychology/Attitude.
Depends on the rest of your cast too. Is the other woman struggling with desire? Is everyone else? Clarifying how your MC’s conflict is unique from the OS will help.
Just to reassure you on your genre choice, mpunduj…
There have been several “big” movies (as in, starring well-known actors and getting big marketing campaigns) about the challenges and complexities of marriage, and the article below covers 11 of the best-known of them:
So, a little cinematic research list for your future watching, and best wishes on your writing process!
