Is anyone watching Pluribus? It seems like a very interesting story, starting right from the Pilot. We don’t know much about the Storyform yet, but so far, I think it points towards GAS. My current guesses are:
OS Concern: Some kind of Fixed Attitude, Innermost Desires (a super-optimistic, pacifist hivemind vs. the most miserable woman on Earth).
MC Concern: Manipulation, Becoming (Carol).
IC Concern: Activity, Obtaining (Zosia/We).
RS Concern: Situation, Future (The hivemind trying to reconcile/pacify Carol)?
So far, I’d guess the lower left quad for the Storyform… It seems to be an Action Driver, Linear and an Optionlock.
Perhaps Carol is the antagonist?
Does anyone have any ideas or opinions on the show?
it’s a Rick and Morty story—Rick f***s Unity, who is everybody on the planet. every scene in it is a recognizable ripoff from another sci fi story. (e.g. pouring out water bottle = Worf “drink not with thine enemy.”)
it’s bad science fiction written for people who don’t like science fiction written by someone who can’t write good science fiction and apparently doesn’t read or watch much science fiction, or is at least hoping you don’t.
I’m not that well-versed in sci-fi, but I did see that Rick and Morty episode, and the Unity plot also immediately came to my mind after watching the Pluribus pilot. Allegedly, one of the inspirations for the show was Invasion of the Body Snatchers (and, for example, The Truman Show as well…).
For my part, I don’t mind if a core concept isn’t entirely original, as long as the plot is taken in an interesting perspective or some unusual new direction. Although we’ve only seen four episodes so far, I find it interesting, and Vince Gilligan’s strengths include exciting plotting and complex characters, which still have plenty of time to unfold.
Of course, based on what we’ve seen, I can’t prejudge the entire first season, but I am optimistic.
I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s a little hard to assess the storyform until it’s over.
@kf27 I agree that Carol is MC and Zosia/We is the IC (or the Others as Carol calls them).
I can see the argument for lower left – especially Becoming/Obtaining.
My first instinct, though, was lower right, with OS in Psychology/Conceiving – this seems like an idea (thought experiment) story – for example, Carol is frustrated that the other survivors don’t “get it” as to what is happening. The Others want Carol to conceive of how wonderful their experience; she cannot conceive of why this big mind-meld is a good thing. The relationship evolves through Learning.
