Introducing Dramatica Essentials: Dramatica without AI

For everyone who enjoyed using Dramatica before the AI revolution: Dramatica Essentials is here.

You can still take advantage of everything that has improved about Storyforming without having to use the latest in AI. Build and revise a Storyform in the Storyform Builder, work through the Story Guide at your own pace, and develop your plot through Signposts and Progressions in Subtxt. Your choices and your writing remain in your hands.

Essentials gives you a self-directed way to use today’s Dramatica, with the AI features turned off. If you ever want to explore those features later, you can move to one of the AI-enabled plans.

Writing can be deeply personal, and there is no single right way to work. We hope Essentials lets you enjoy the Dramatica you know, along with the tools we’ve built since, in the way that feels right to you.

I’d love to hear what you’re working on—and which parts of the manual Storyforming and plot-development workflow you’d like us to keep improving.

Hey Jim, I was thinking of trying Essentials, but just wondering how it works if you pick yearly Essentials and then want to upgrade, would you need to upgrade to the yearly version of one of the other plans? (And I guess the difference would be pro-rated?)

In that case, for someone who isn’t sure which plan they want, it may work better to start with monthly and then switch to yearly when they’re more sure right?

Thanks so much for creating this plan level! I tend to use Narrova mostly for movie analysis and theory discussion, so my AI usage is in fits and spurts. (Which probably means the monthly plans will work best for me.)

Hi Michael!

I had to ask my robots to write up the most accurate answer for you (since there are so many moving parts) - but overall I’m really happy that you see value in the Essentials, and yes, the idea is to make everything easier for writers to fit their own schedules.

Here is the “super intelligence” version :

Hi!

You wouldn’t be locked into yearly billing for the upgrade. You can move from yearly Essentials to either a monthly or yearly AI plan through your Dramatica billing settings.

The upgrade takes effect right away, with unused time on Essentials credited toward the new plan. If you switch to monthly, your monthly billing period starts then. Any credit left over stays on your account toward future invoices rather than automatically being refunded to your card.

And yes, starting monthly makes sense while you’re figuring out what fits. Given how you use Narrova, that gives you more flexibility, and you can switch to yearly once you have a better feel for your usage.

Glad Essentials is useful to you!

Jim
