Story development rarely happens at a steady pace.
There are quiet weeks when you are thinking through a Storyform or sitting with a difficult Throughline. Then there are stretches when everything is moving at once: a draft, a series bible, notes, revisions, and long conversations with Narrova.
Our old usage system did not reflect that experience very well. It asked writers to interpret Narrative Capacity, token amounts, and extension packs—technical measurements that still did not answer the practical question: How much of my plan do I have left, and what can I do if I need more?
We have replaced that model with something much simpler: Usage and Resets.
One percentage and one clear date
Your Usage & Subscription page now shows:
- the percentage of your included usage that remains;
- the exact date it returns to 100%; and
- a clear place to buy, save, and apply Resets.
Usage returns to 100% every month. This is true for both monthly and annual subscriptions. An annual subscription still provides the annual price savings, but its usage resets monthly just like the corresponding monthly plan.
The plan levels still matter. Dramatica is designed for lighter, more occasional work; Plus supports sustained solo story development; and Pro supports the heaviest production and team workflows. The difference is how much ongoing work each tier can support—not a different quality of Dramatica Theory or a smarter version of Narrova.
What is a Reset?
A Reset restores the included usage for your current plan to 100%.
You can buy one at any usage level. You might purchase it with 5% remaining, keep working, and apply it later when you reach 1%. Purchasing and applying are intentionally separate.
Saved Resets:
- do not expire;
- are not consumed or removed by your automatic monthly reset;
- do not change your subscription renewal or automatic reset date; and
- remain tied to the plan for which they were purchased.
A Reset costs the monthly price of its tier: $20 for Dramatica, $50 for Plus, or $200 for Pro. That is also the price for annual subscribers—you are never charged the annual subscription price for a Reset.
If you regularly need multiple Resets, the next tier will usually provide better ongoing value. Resets are there for the uneven month: the intensive rewrite, the production push, or the period when several parts of a story suddenly need attention at once.
A welcome Reset for new monthly Dramatica subscribers
First-time customers who begin with the monthly Dramatica plan receive one complimentary saved Reset.
It introduces the system directly, gives a new writer room to explore, and leaves the normal meaning of “100%” intact. The welcome Reset is for a first monthly Dramatica purchase; it does not apply to annual subscriptions, downgrades, or later subscriptions.
What happens to previously purchased Narrative Capacity?
If you still have a purchased legacy Narrative Capacity balance, we are preserving it.
You will continue to see that balance on Usage & Subscription, along with a one-time option to convert it into saved Resets for your active plan. The conversion rounds up in your favor, so you receive more value rather than losing a partial balance. After conversion, the old counter disappears and the resulting Resets remain saved until you decide to use them.
Why this fits story development better
The purpose of a subscription limit is to make sustained service possible. It should not make the creative process harder to understand.
A percentage tells you where you are. An exact date tells you when the next cycle begins. A saved Reset gives you control when the work does not fit neatly inside that cycle.
That is the whole model.
