Updated Narrova and Dramatica

Some fun updates coming tomorrow…the least of which: hooking up Narrova to GPT-5.2. Straight and to-the-point responses:

Narrova now has better helpers to get you started, whether you are reviewing your latest draft…

You’re diving into some of the official Dramatica Storyform examples…

Or you’re starting from scratch:

Everyone always asks, well is it for creation or is it for analysis, and the answer is always YES!

And you might learn a thing or two about Dramatica theory…

And speaking of Narrova, once you’re into the thick of it you can always tap the re-generation button to make slight changes, go for a shorter or longer response, or even just “undo” the last response and try a different direction.

And to shift back and forth between the different passes, you can always quickly switch back and forth over their on the left hand side of the viewport:

We’ve worked hard behind the scenes to make these extra touches bulletproof. Hope you enjoy!

Narrova now has a convenient “Narrative Efficiency” meter:

This feature is where you can keep track of your context space–and whether or not you’re “running out of space” too quickly. As your resources dwindle down to 0% you might want to consider starting a new conversation. And don’t worry - Dramatica’s super-power is the Storyform - context goes with you, even into a new conversation!

Tapping on the button grants you the opportunity to adjust the level of Thinking and the Response Length. Keep things short when you’re in the flow, ask for more detail when you really want to get into the weeds.

Thinking is a different dial – go for Light or Quick when you just need to bounce some ideas off Narrova quickly - or reach for Deliberate thinking when you really want Narrova to take its time responding to your request.

And you can always set the defaults for each Narrative Agent in your profile:

And this last one is my most favoritist!

Narrova and the Storyform Builder now work hand-in-hand, helping you quickly and smartly arrive at the very best Storyform for your story!

In the screenshot above, you can see how I went through and selected Steadfast, Action, Success, Good (my choices are in blue). I was thinking of a happy holiday season movie where the world changes around the central character and how it all turns out in triumphant success.

Popping open Narrova I simply asked:

I’m working on a new story about Santa and his expedition to Saturn and beyond, but what’s really bothering him is how no one really believes in him anymore - any ideas of what I could add to this storyform I’m working on to make that really hit home?

And because Narrova can now tap into the Builder (and vice-versa), it can quickly make informed and enlightened suggestions for improvement and which direction to go next!

Having the IC be a character who models modern disbelief is perfect! (Especially in a Steadfast MC story). Kinda like Elf…but in space!

But again, because we’re talking Storyform, there is SO MUCH more to decide and to go over - just look at this:

Not only do we get a better idea of what direction we might want to take things, we’re presented options because, after all, no two stories are ever exactly the same, right?!

But this is the coolest part…Narrova can make those selections for you DIRECTLY in the Storyform Builder!!

Check it out - i just said:

Santa is just an overly optimistic kind of guy - and he doesn’t get why everyone else is not like that - what Domain would you suggest? (go ahead and set it for me)

And this is what happened!

See those Orange “inferred” choices there - that’s the Storyform Builder ensuring (through the magic of Dramatica theory) that the story’s underlying subtext remains thematically consistent. Here I’ll show you by closing Narrova momentarily…

See, you can see that Narrova went ahead and selected Mind for the Main Character Domain. By virtue of the relationships in Dramatica theory, that means the IC (Influence Character) will balance out the narrative by having an IC Domain in Universe!

We also know, by process of elimination, that Santa’s approach will be as a Be-er - more charismatic than an action oriented go-getter.

I love it!

And from there, Narrova continues the conversation to keep me refining and narrowing down my story – essentially sculpting away at the Storyform.

If you can’t tell, I’m beyond excited about how well this worked out, and really hopes it helps you write the kind of stories you’ve always dreamed of.

Enjoy and happy holidays to all!
